May 18, 2018

Dear Families,
Thank you so much for joining us for our Celebration of Learning! Here are just a few highlights from the week as well as upcoming events.

Wednesday, May 23 --Spring Festival of the Arts 6-7 pm
Friday, May 25th --2nd Grade Field Trip to Greenfield Village
Monday, May 28th-- No school, Memorial Day
Tuesday, May 29th-- All School Field Trip, Henry Ford Museum

Reading and Writing:  We did a lot of reflecting on our learning in preparation for our “Celebration of Learning” during this time! We hope you enjoyed seeing your child in the leadership role, sharing all the fabulous learning he/she did this year as well as some of his/her accomplishments!

Math  This week we reviewed and took the test for Unit 8. Your child’s cover sheet will be coming home soon with his/her scores.  We'll take the  pretest for unit 9 and  start on our last unit of the year on Monday—Whoo-hoo!!! Attached are the homelinks, the at-home review, and the IXL skills for our final unit.

IXL Skills for Unit 9:

Science-  This week we did a “Mystery Science” activity which answered the question…,”Do plants eat dirt?”. The kids worked in groups to make a root viewer in order to watch radish seeds grow.  We continued to watch and reflect on our grass heads (also from Mystery Science) and bean sprouts!  Thank you to those who donated the CD cases so we were able to make our root viewers! We're excited to see what happened to our plants over the weekend!

Field Trips  We are excited for our two field trips coming up—Next Friday (the 25th) to Greenfield Village and the following Tuesday (the 29th) to Greenfield Museum! Please be on the lookout for special directions/reminders which we will be sending home soon! Thanks to all the parents who were able to help chaperone the trips! We appreciate your help and we know we will have a lot of fun on the trips.

Have a great weekend!
The Second Grade Teachers
