100th Day of school: Valentine’s day is also our 100th day of school! We would like to surprise the kids in the morning by doing some fun activities while making them 100 pancakes! SHHHHH….IT’S A SURPRISE!!! We will send home a picture of the back of the pancake box to our allergy students to see if he/she can have the pancakes, soon!

Fruit Drive from the Lighthouse team:
Dear Deerfield Leaders,
We are collecting canned fruit for the people who need help with food. The deadline is Feb. 15, 2017. We are going to put them in a box that has different colors. Make sure to bring the canned fruit in by Feb.15,2017. There are posters around the school for reminders.  Thank you for all of your help. Make sure to bring in canned fruit not canned vegetables.

Reading:
This past week we worked on a thinking strategy called BHH: Book, Head, Heart. We're working on thinking and discussing the big ideas of the book or article, discussing what's going on in our heads, and what we're thinking while we read and heart, what we feel as we read. Students are trying to share a little of this strategy on Seesaw. This strategy promotes engagement and interaction with the text.

Word Work:
We are continuing to work in our Wordly Wise Books. We're learning the routine and the expectations for working with the book. This workbook is quite challenging, but really helps with learning and using new vocabulary.

Writing:
This week was a catch up week for us.  A few students completed their realistic stories while others worked on finishing.  We'll share our books tomorrow and send them home for you to see.

Math:
We took our math test for unit 5 on Tuesday.  A cover sheet with your child’s grade went home on Thursday or Friday of last week.   We also started unit 6.  The homelinks will be attached to an email and IXL skills are below for practice at home. The “at home review” is also coming home so please put this in a safe spot for practice during the unit, as well as practice right before the test.   This is EXACTLY the same information that is on the test! If your child completes this, they will be much more prepared for the test! For the unit 5 test, only a few students completed this important review before the test.

Also, we will be rechecking a few of the skills the students missed on the 23rd and 24th of this month.  If your child missed a particular math skill, PLEASE practice at home so your child is ready to get rechecked for the upcoming report card. Please refer to the at home review to practice the problems with your child at home.  Thank you for your help at home.

WIN (what I need):
We had WIN time where students are working on “what they need” and teachers are able to pull small groups to help students.  Next week we will dive into our citizenship unit where we will start to discuss our community service project for March- be on the look out for more information to come!

Character Trait of the Month:   Citizenship
Please look over your Citizenship Grid and continue to talk about these traits at home and we will do the same here at school!

Have a great weekend!
