Language Arts/Science: This past week, we combined our current science unit with our reading/writing units.  Our unit is called, "Earth's Land and Water".  Some of the questions we will be exploring include:
  1. Which of earth’s features are found in or near our community?
  2. How do the features in our community differ from those in other places?
  3. How does water flow downhill over landforms and pools to form bodies of water?
  4. What are the sources of water?
  5. How can water be protected and conserved?
We started learning about various landforms found on earth this past week.  We will continue our unit next week!

Math:  We took our pretest for unit 5 and made goals in our leadership notebooks for the upcoming test.  Please be sure to keep the at home review in a safe spot at home.  Your child should not know how to do everything on the review as it is meant for practice during AND right before the test.  Therefore, PLEASE keep this at home and do not return it to school.  We also sent home the homelinks and IXL skills that align with the unit. Please use them as you see fit for your child.  Finally, one of the hardest skills on this unit is making change.  It would be great to have you start working with your child at home with this.  We teach the children to count up.  You can use a number grid or even a number line to show them.  It is also helpful using real coins and bills, as well. Thanks for your help at home!

The 7 Habits:  We are recommitting to learning about ,"The 7 habits" by Sean Covey as a school.  We spend lots of time this past week reviewing expectations and routines.  We also began learning about the 7 Habits and how we can implement them into our lives.  We hope you are seeing and hearing the language of this wonderful program at home, as well.

Mindfulness: Ms. Carol came on Thursday and taught us about the brain. Ask your child to tell you about it!

Have a great weekend!
The 2nd grade Team
